    Went to UCSD Winter Gamefest.

Went 28-0 in pretournament casuals, made it to Losers (semi?)Finals in my pool, but I had to play against Ken I there, who I had previously sent to losers early in the tournament. I did pretty okay.

My other loss was to Futile(Abel) who ended up making top 8 and knows the Abel/Blanka match way better than I do.

Super nervous(I'd never beaten him ever) video of me at 1:10 vs Ken I in winners. I played really really bad but I clutched it out when it counted. I missed so many U2s and a combo into super IIRC. I also had to use the bathroom because they called me like 25 minutes early for the match.

My other match that was on stream vs a so so honda at about 50:30. I played really basic here on purpose because I knew him mashing reversal during combos was really the only way I would lose. I also missed a lot of chances to focus buttslam, but whatever I wasn't worried at all after the first round.

Well I just saw a replay of SatsuiNoHomo on the replay list beating an A+ Dhalsim player, pretty good shit man I know it must be a hard matchup for Blanka cuz any balls can be punished.

You should have said hi, we've been talking about Blanka stuff on the internet for years and I didn't get to meet you in person!

From the San Diego thread, you should have told me the Dudley stuff also. I definitely could have used it. I went into the match with Marn thinking "well, he owns my Dee Jay, my gameplan with Blanka is going to be take as many risks as possible and mash hard!" If Marn would have played even remotely seriously he would have wrecked me. I don't know the match other than "rolling thunder punishes everything" and "Dudleys hit a lot of buttons and require meter to anti-air". Other than that, no clue.

For the rest of the people here, scrubbiest match you could possibly imagine below:
Justin.tv - The Box Arena - Box Viscant (BL) Vs. EG Marn (DU) - Pt.1 <--- part 1
Justin.tv - The Box Arena - Box Viscant (BL) Vs. EG Marn (DU) - Pt.2 <--- part 2

Grand finals that are played (somewhat) better. I was still mashing pretty hard. This is what my Blanka looks like when my mindset changes from "play conservative" to "eh, fuck it".
    Justin.tv - The Box Arena - SSF4 Winterfest 2011 starts 10 AM PST <--- everything from 9:00 on.

I was sitting about 15 feet away from you during the match and watched the whole thing. The random ultras were pretty hilarious.

I added you on AIM if you ever want to chat.

I might be coming down to SD more this year, my girlfriend goes to UCSD and I'm friends with ANDSlayers which sort of combined to make my weekend happen, so it might give us a chance to talk shop in person.

    Edit:
Also I am contemplating picking up Deejay so I might ask for some pointers.

Any reason you used u2 verses Viper? High chance of crumpling her? Not guessing against burn kicks?

U2 stops him from burn kicking away and doing the burn kick directly over your head. Nobody ever does it anymore, it was more a tactic of vanilla Viper anyways. Landed it successfully once in 8 games vs. AlexMan which is about the rate you can expect to hit it at.

I probably should switch over to U1 for sheer damage output per round ratio. Despite what happened in the tournament I really don't use my ultra meter at all with Blanka. I occasionally combo U1 when I have it. I occasionally punish a fireball with U2 when I have that. Other than that, I almost never use my meter so I don't really think about it that often and tend to default to U2 in any match that I have even a marginal use for it. Hard to say that with a straight face after mashing out 2 ultras per round vs. Marn, but it's true.

yeah I saw you combo into u1 once, but I don't remember who it was against.

I have a similar problem and I think comboing into U1 as a priority mixed with some of the stuff I've been working on can help put the character over the top.

U2 is weak, I think you have the right idea. If you have your expected average damage go up you have to go for it really. I don't think U2 really shuts down any sort of options that Blanka can't already deal with in some way. At this point I think I only like it against Gouken, Sim, Sagat, Rose, and Deejay(sometimes).

What do you guys think about making individual matchup threads for characters? Or at least grouping them?

I was looking at some of the other character forums recently and it is actually fairly easy to find matchup info and such.

I mean on one hand not pooling information together cohesively makes it hard for the other characters to counter us by not having a checklist of things they should not do, but on the other hand we are sort of shortchanging ourselves.

Edit: My SRK wiki account got approved so I'll probably fill out the Blanka page with some useful stuff. I was thinking hitbox images to start and maybe some frame data notes. Any ideas?

Hitbox images would be great, but if you do it's key to put more than one for certain moves. cr.mp and st.hp for example have different portions of the move that are used for hitting at different spots. For example the earlier frames of cr.mp are used in hitting ground based opponents but its only the last frame or two that have the hitbox that is really good for anti air.

i'm sure if you put your labwork info and matchup knowledgei n there it'd be great

i actually started generating image frames for all the moves in that torrent that was released last year. basically it has everything from startup to recovery. i still have to group up the individual moves but it's not that hard, just very time consuming.

For moves that have different useful frames I was either going to do seperate images or a gif with notations.

I feel my matchup knowledge is pretty weak outside of a few characters. I also feel that the way matchup knowledge is generally disseminated is incorrect. X move counters Y move is great, but I think the primary focus should be on what to do to prevent your opponent from executing their gameplan. I never feel a little paragraph can sum up the things you need to do to win the matchup. I think The Realyst had the right idea for his matchup thread, but I think it needed someone who was going to at least lay down a bit of the things then fill it out as he goes. It has great info but is neglected.

Oh well if you already have a project of it going that would be great.

Excellent stuff against Marn there Viscant. Imo they weren't really random U's, played like a counter punish. 4frame startup is certainly handy when someone gets overly rushdown and drops blockstrings or leaves openings. Where a sweep would connect lash in an ultra eh? Haha! :)

Only played a little Dee Jay this weekend. Wasn't playing well with him, kept dropping combos and blowing easy punishes so I stuck with Blanka the whole last 2/3 of the tournament. Getting favorable matches the whole way through helped, other than Marn everyone I played were Blanka's few good matches (Chun, Chun, Ken, Chun, Dudley, Viper, Viper).

Also, I like the idea for AE of doing more matchup specific stuff in the forum. Super is about 3/4 of a year old and there are some matchups that I have only the basics of the basics in. There are just too many characters in this game. Even in some of the matchups that I "know" like vs. Ibuki or vs. Makoto most of my knowledge is "this move punishes ball/ex up ball on hit, so don't do it. I can jump on him because the character either can't anti-air or players who play that character tend not to, so jump more than usual. And low strong bothers them so keep doing it." That's not a gameplan. That's not even the skeleton of a gameplan, it's just notes. The actual playing out of the match is in the dark.
And it's not just obscure characters. Even matchups like vs. Zangief or vs. Dhalsim, I'll watch people play matches out or I'll be the one playing and the whole framework of the match is wrong. Like vs. Dhalsim awhile back I decided to learn the match Mizoteru style instead of playing (dumb) like I always do and just rushing him. Not moving at all worked for me. I went from being free to any Dhalsim to being able to play with Filipino Champ and Sann and other good Dhalsims in the area. It would have been nice to know that instead of walking headfirst into stuff for 6 months.

So anything the forum wants to do for AE I'll be happy to help out as much as I can.

So guys, Sosage is on a desticky/sticky fest.

I'm thinking new comprehensive thread with me as the thread starter and destickying the current matchup thread, a new combo thread with the important combos emphasized in the first post(or retooling the current one). destickying the understanding ultra thread, Hey Moval, and the frame data thread

So the new stickies would be

Master List of Blanka Info thing that has links to things like the safeball thread, the ultra thread, labwork thread, frame data thread etc and also info every Blanka should know. Example thread
    Combo thread
Matchups(would include links to threads that only cover a few characters) example
    Video Thread
    Critique?(post your vids here)
    Q&A
Trials?(could be rolled into master thread)
    General discussion?(probably not)

This would give us 5-7 stickies instead of the 9 we currently have, the correct threads would be stickied, and a lot of information would be easier to find and consolidated.

    What do you guys think?

Sounds good Ves, current matchup info is really scattered in places. Hard to take it all in alright.

BLANKA - SUPER STREET FIGHTER 4 MOVES COMBOS - FIGHTING GAME NEWS STRATEGY & MEDIA

Nice eh? Wouldn't it be even nicer with gif-hitbox animations? Although I couldn't even begin to find out where I'd get the raw data to put it together. I've seen people put up images of hitbox info before, where does that info come from?

there is a hitbox sticky in the main forum.

I was going to contribute to the IPW thing, but I couldn't really do what I wanted with it. Emailing them info and having them decide what is important is stupid when I have a better idea of what is important.
